What is Gunpla?

Last updated on May 08, 2026

Gunpla means Gundam plastic model. It is the name used for model kits based on the Gundam franchise, and it has become one of the most popular hobbies in anime collecting.

Most Gunpla kits are snap-fit plastic models. That means the parts push together without glue, and they are usually moulded in colour, so you do not need to paint them to get a good basic finish. This makes Gunpla much more beginner-friendly than many traditional model kits.

The hobby can be as simple or as detailed as you want. A beginner can build a kit straight from the box with just a nipper, while an experienced builder might add panel lining, decals, paint, weathering, custom parts or display bases.

Gunpla also comes in many grades and scales. Entry Grade and High Grade are great starting points. Real Grade gives more detail in a smaller size. Master Grade and Full Mechanics offer larger builds, while Perfect Grade kits are big, advanced projects for serious builders.

For many fans, Gunpla is relaxing, creative and satisfying. You get to build the mobile suit yourself, then display it as part of your collection. Kidultverse stocks Gunpla kits, tools and accessories for new builders, returning hobbyists and dedicated Gundam collectors.
